The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Visual Communications degree is an intense series of courses intended to inspire inquiry in the art of communication design and develop an individual’s creative process. The degree path begins with graphic design fundamentals and guides each student through a combination of required and elective courses that emphasis typography, form-making techniques, media and cultural awareness, communication theory and studio practice. Visual Communications degree candidates are required to receive a grade of C or better in all Art courses to continue in the degree path.
The guiding principles of this degree program are rooted in the value of design fundamentals, historical context, experiential learning, experimental form-making, and communication theory. We believe that by instilling an understanding of individual creative process within each student, our graduates are best prepared to face the challenges of the future.
Experiential Learning means that students learn by doing. This manifests in the development of individual methods of creative problem-solving and an understanding of the world we live in as a tangible source of inspiration.
Experimental Form-Making is the process of allowing oneself to let intuition and insight guide one’s creative process through the interaction of body and material. Through this process, new forms of communication media are discovered and new ideas are generated.
